*Below are descriptions of Kippewa’s usual trips program offerings. Things may look different in any given summer depending on guidelines and the best way to keep our campers safe, but no matter what we will continue to explore and enjoy the great outdoors in the beautiful state of Maine. Check out the descriptions below to see the types of opportunities that surround us!
Outdoor Adventure & Trips
Kippewa’s perfect Maine setting allows for tons of outdoor adventure.
Scaling the climbing wall, trying our high & low ropes course or exploring nature trails around camp are just some of the ways we enjoy the outdoors. Sunsets over the lake, campfires, trips to glacier carved islands, and friendly “critters” provide outdoor adventures at every turn.
Trips Program
Girls of all ages enjoy the trips program at Kippewa. We are fortunate to be in a beautiful location and we provide opportunities to get out and enjoy everything Maine has to offer.
The entire camp spends a day out at the beach on our annual “beach trip”. We enjoy grilling out and playing in the sand and waves at the ever-popular Popham Beach.
Our younger girls (entering 2nd-5th grades) all spend a night camping out on “Spirit Island”, located just a short boat ride away in Lake Cobbosseecontee, with their cabin. They cook dinner and breakfast over the fire and enjoy sleeping under the stars in tents with their bunkmates. Girls of this age will also have opportunities to sign up for day hiking and canoeing trips in the local area.
Our 6th and 7th graders can choose to spend an afternoon on a working lobster boat, go on an overnight hike, visit a local animal refuge, or spend a day and night out canoeing down the Saco or Androscoggin River.
Older girls also have opportunities to enjoy overnight hikes and canoe trips. In addition many of them choose to experience white water rafting down the Kennebec River with the Moxie Rafting Company complete with spending the night in cabin-tents and songs around the campfire. Our most avid hikers are provided opportunities to participate in advanced hikes such as climbing Mt. Katahdin, the highest point in Maine, and exploring other points along the Appalachian Mountain Range.
The OCs (Oldest Campers) look forward to a 4-day/3-night trip enjoying much of what Maine has to offer. Staying in a private lodge or ski-villa type house, they explore different parts of Maine than they have visited in earlier years. This trip may include things like tubing down the Saco River, berry-picking, visiting light houses, exploring ski resorts in the summertime, mining for gems, hiking to one of Maine many waterfalls, visiting unique fishing villages along the coast, and more. This is a special bonding trip for our oldest campers in their final summer together.
